Islamabad United's Mir Hamza Sajjad recovering after concussion
Mir Hamza Sajjad, the Islamabad United fast bowler, is recovering after suffering a concussion following a blow to the head during a training session.
Sajjad was struck on the back of the neck by a stray ball, causing him to lose consciousness, after which he was rushed to hospital. United will continue to monitor his progress, but have been encouraged by early signs of recovery.
The incident took place during the team's training session in Karachi. Hamza, who has not yet played for United this season, bowled a delivery in the nets before turning around and walking back to his run-up. A flat shot from a batter from elsewhere in the training area then arrowed to him, leaving little time for him to duck out of the way. It struck him square on the back of the neck, and Sajjad slowly collapsed to the floor, losing consciousness.
Physio Cliffe Deacon was on hand to administer emergency first-aid, before an on-site ambulance took him to the hospital. He did not gain consciousness until after he was in the ambulance, but showed positive signs upon waking up. He was able to speak to his family. United have been reassured that there was no blood clot as a result of the injury.
